Privacy

The short version: we collect almost nothing, we sell nothing, and there are no advertising or analytics trackers on this site.

Reading the paper. No account is needed and no tracking or advertising cookies are set. The site stores your light/dark theme choice and a copy of the last edition you loaded in your own browser, so the paper still renders if the server is asleep. That never leaves your device. Our host keeps ordinary server logs.

If you send us something. Tips, advertising enquiries, job applications and book-club replies are stored in our database with whatever name and contact details you choose to include. Tips can be sent anonymously — leave the contact fields blank and we have no way to identify you. If a tip leads to a story we never identify a source without explicit permission.

If you make an account. Accounts exist for the watch feature on the global edition. We store your email address and a hashed password. Nothing else.

Who else sees it. Nobody. We do not sell, rent or share what you send us. The only third parties involved are our hosting and database providers, who hold the data because they run the servers.

The articles themselves come from public records published by government agencies. Where a record names a private individual, this paper does not publish an AI-written story about it — that rule is enforced in the software, not left to judgement.

Photographs. Every picture on the site is a freely licensed photograph from Wikimedia Commons, served from our own server — no stock imagery, nothing AI-generated, and no third party learns what you looked at. Full credits are here.

Deletion. Want your submission removed? Ask through the tip line and we will delete it outright — not flag it as hidden, delete it. Say enough for us to find it; if you sent it anonymously we may not be able to identify which one is yours.
