Toyota recalls Sienna Hybrids over seat back risk

Toyota says second-row seat backs in some Sienna Hybrid minivans may not stay locked in a crash, and dealers will fix them for free.

Toyota is recalling about 228,367 Sienna Hybrid minivans, model years 2022 through 2026, because the second-row seat backs may not stay secured in a crash. A seat back that doesn't lock in place may not properly protect a passenger during a collision, raising the risk of injury. NHTSA

Toyota says owners do not need to stop driving the vehicles or park them outside while they wait for repairs. NHTSA

What owners should do

Dealers will update the software in the seat's electronic control unit at no cost to the owner. NHTSA

Vehicles built with the "Mobility as a Service" package will instead get both second-row seat backs replaced, also free of charge. NHTSA

Toyota expects to mail owner notification letters on December 7, 2026, and owners can check whether their vehicle is included by entering their VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. Owners with questions can call Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 and reference recall numbers 26TB24 or 26TA24. This is a national recall covering vehicles nationwide; Toyota's filing does not say how many, if any, are registered in New Carlisle or elsewhere in Ohio. NHTSA
