Ohioans filed 15,642 applications to start a business in May 2026, seasonally adjusted, according to the Census Bureau's Business Formation Statistics. That is up from 13,880 the month before. A year earlier the figure was 13,142. Of the applications, 3,917 came from businesses the Census Bureau judges likely to hire employees. The figures are statewide; the Census Bureau does not publish them for New Carlisle.
